I tell every crow and raven I meet, "Good morning, Poe."

I've always loved crows and ravens. There is just something about them that I connect with. I can't fully explain it, but whenever one is nearby, I notice and somehow, it often feels like they notice me too.

Yesterday I had a special encounter with a large raven in the grocery store parking lot.

As I pulled into a parking space, it landed on the shopping cart return just a few feet away. When I stepped out of my car, it looked directly at me and began making a soft sound, almost like a purr. Then it fluffed the feathers around its head as if it were greeting me.

I smiled and said hello, just as I always do. For a moment, we simply stood there, only a few feet apart. It never moved away. It just watched me while continuing its quiet little sounds. It wasn't extraordinary by anyone else's standards, but it felt like we were acknowledging each other's presence.

When I walked into the store, my friend looked at me with a puzzled expression.

"Was that bird talking to you?"

"Yes," I smiled. "They always do."

Most mornings, a crow greets me before I leave for work. It sits somewhere nearby as I walk to my car. I tell it good morning, then head off to start my day.

I'm sure some people would say it's nothing more than birds being birds.

Maybe they're right.

The world is full of quiet connections. Take time to notice the small things that remind you you're part of something bigger.
The world is full of quiet connections. Take time to notice the small things that remind you you're part of something bigger.

But I've come to believe life is made up of these small moments. The ones most people hurry past. A bird that lingers. A familiar greeting. A shared glance. Tiny reminders that we're more connected to the world around us than we often realize.

Not every meaningful conversation happens with words. Sometimes it happens in silence.

Sometimes it happens with a raven in a grocery store parking lot.

A Moment to Reflect

This week, slow down...

Notice the birds.

The trees swaying in the wind.

The stranger who smiles at you.

The familiar face that appears each morning.

You may discover that the quietest moments are often the ones that stay with you the longest.
